The Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology hosts two large laboratories at the Natural Resources Building on the Montana Tech campus. The MBMG Analytical Laboratory primarily analyzes water samples in support of research conducted by MBMG investigative programs. The lab is licensed by the State of Montana–Department of Health and Human Services; the quality assurance and quality control protocols meet criteria established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Geological Survey. The Mineral Separation Laboratory includes wet, clean, and microscope rooms used to prepare geologic samples for a range of techniques, from petrographic thin-sections to fluid inclusion studies.
